Xtremely Friendly Softball Portraits

In Blog

Now an August long-weekend tradition, the Xtremely Friendly Softball Tournament brings together the important entities, businesses, and groups that are an integral part of the fabric of our downtown community, in order to support a good cause. This year the monies raise will support the All Girl Skate Camps initiative.devin

I was excited to be part of the team working on the advertising for this years tournament. When John Capp approached me about this project, it wasn’t exactly clear what kind of pictures we should have. The style we were going for was the old baseball card look. The end results were natural-light portraits with the help of an iPhone flashlight here and there. To embrace the summer season, we opted to shoot during sundown, which resulted in these season themed photos.

The tournament will take place August 3rd from 11am-11pm at Riverain Park in Ottawa. The games will be short, 3 innings per game to ensure a fast turn over. Depending on the final number teams that will sign up, we will have a number of games during the day and a playoff style showdown in the evening. The teams must be co-ed and there is a minimum requirement of 3 girls and 3 guys on the field at all time. The complete rules will be posted for teams to review as needed.

We will have a licensed Beer Garden and we are happy to have local Kichesippi Beer as our brewing partner and The King Eddy is providing BBQ food to keep you running around those bases. Meanwhile, Union Local 613 will be prepping some beverage mixers to keep our cocktail selection interesting. And thank you once again to Jackpine for the support in creating visuals to get people excited about the event and for providing a photographer to immortalize our sporting feats. Finally, thank you to councillor Mathieu Fleury for helping us acquire all the necessary permits to make this day a reality.

We are stoked to welcome 16 teams in this year’s Tourney. The schedule will be released soon…
